Staff Testing

    • Testing is required to ensure that candidates have the necessary clerical skills for administrative positions at the University. The following tests have been designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and abilities of all potential candidates. Test results are kept on file for two years. Each position at the University has specific testing requirements. In addition to the tests outlined below, candidates may be required to take departmental tests to ensure competency in the specific program or area. All software tests are available in Windows 2010.

      Word Processing (WP)

      This is a series of timed tests to evaluate your word processing skills in the application of Microsoft WORD software. Please refer to the WORD testing criteria, for an outline of functions you will be tested on at each level. The level required for testing will be determined by the requirements of each position. Personal reference materials are allowed for all WORD tests.

      Spreadsheet Skills (S/S)

      This is a series of timed tests to evaluate your skills in the application of Microsoft EXCEL software. Please refer to the EXCEL testing criteria for an outline of functions you will be tested on at each level. The level required for testing will be determined by the requirements of each position. Personal reference materials are allowed for all EXCEL tests.

      Database Skills (DB)

      This is a series of timed tests to evaluate your skills in the application of Microsoft ACCESS software. Please refer to the ACCESS testing criteria for an outline of functions you will be tested on at each level. The level required for testing will be determined by the requirements of each position. Personal reference materials are allowed for all ACCESS tests.

      Keyboard Skills

      This is a timed typing test to assess your typing speed and accuracy. Minimum typing speed may range from 40-60 words per minute. The level required for testing will be determined by the requirements of each position.

      Office Grammar and Spelling Test

      This timed test will evaluate your knowledge of spelling, punctuation, grammar and capitalization through a series of exercises. Candidates will be required to correct errors in sentences and passages.

      Perception Test

      This is a timed test to assess your ability to perceive written details in words and numbers quickly, and to recognize similarities and differences rapidly.
