BSwiss - Swiss International Business Summer School

    • This two-week summer business program is presented by our partner,  the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). It is open to Swiss and international Bachelor students. During the two exciting and challenging weeks participants attend courses, visit companies, discover local culture and establish networks with people from Switzerland and around the world. Basel is located near the borders of France and Germany, and contains the country's highest concentration of museums.

      Module 1: Global Competitiveness
        Module 2: Product Innovation and Business Model Innovation
         The modules include preparation literature, contact hours, self-study time and company visits as well as cultural and social activities
      Credits: 6 ECTS (3 Capilano University credits)

    • Academic Courses

      The Summer School is a two-week seminar, taught in English by internationally experienced lecturers. The two subjects «Global Competitiveness» and «Innovation» will be taught and knowledge transfers from world leading companies arranged from a specific Swiss perspective. The courses build on at least two years of business studies; they are academically challenging with a strong applied management focus. Interaction between students and lecturers is highly encouraged.

      Each module includes field trips to different Swiss companies related to the programme Topic.

      1.Global Competitiveness

      The two week program starts with the module «Global Competitiveness» to learn about the actual situation in Switzerland and to show how public institutions foster and benefit from Switzerland's advantages which strongly revolve around innovation.

      2. Product Innovation and Business Model Innovation


      The second part of the first week and the full second course week will be focused on innovation, especially product innovation and business model innovation. Additional company visits will provide a practical insight into the fascinating world of how companies try to improve or even revolutionize their products and hone their business models constantly.

       

      Transfer Credit for Business students:

      BADM 3XX - 3 credits

      Students will receive a total of 3transfer credits upon successful completions of the full BSwiss Program. We recommend that all students visit an Academic Advisor to selection which Option of transfer credit is most suitable and for course planning to ensure that all program requirements are met.

      Eligibility Requirements

       

      • have a cumulative grade point average of 2.67 at time of application
      • be enrolled as a full time student (9 credits) at Capilano University at time of application
      • completed a minimum of 60 credits prior to departure
      • return for at least one major semester (fall or spring) as a full time student (9 credits)

      Fees and Fee Payment

      Tuition Charges and Other Fees payable to Capilano University

      • Tuition and Upper Level surcharges for 3 credits
      • Study Abroad Fee for a Summer program (approx. $220.73 )

      Other Fees payable to FHNW

      • Visits and cultural events (400 Swiss Francs)
      • Accomodation, if needed (600 Swiss Francs)

      FHNW will not provide airport pick-up service. Participants will be accommodated in studios with their own kitchen and bathroom. Breakfast is not included. All rooms are furnished. The beds are supplied with duvet plus pillow and sheets. Please take care that nothing of the inventory is missing on your leave.

      Participants should also buy their own Travel Insurance prior to departure. 

      How to apply

      Step 1: Submit your Application

      Your completed application package should include the following:

      1. Completed Capilano University Exchange Program Application (.pdf)
      2. Letter of Intent, 400-500 words long which set out and explains:
        • the relationship of international/intercultural education to your career goals
        • why and how this particular student exchange will be of value to you
        • what you believe you can contribute to Capilano University as an Ambassador for Study Abroad
         
      3. Current Resume
      4. Official Academic Transcripts
      5. 2 Faculty Reference Forms
      6. Photocopy of the identification page of your passport. If your passport needs to be renewed, please submit a copy of your current passport and indicate "in process of renewal".
      7. Academic Program Planner completed by an Academic Advisor

      Step 2: Interview

      All applicants are interviewed by a faculty member and/or a member of the Centre for International Experience. We recommend that all applicants represent themselves in a professional manner.

      Step 3: Accepting your Offer

      All successful candidates will be notified via email. Acceptance of this offer is submitted along with a non refundable Study Abroad Fee.
