• Public Sector Energy Conservation Agreement (PSECA) was created to help public service organizations reduce provincial greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy consumption and operating costs, to support the government in achieving its goal of carbon neutrality.

In 2009, Capilano University received funding from the province, BC Hydro and FortisBC to finance energy saving retrofits in order to achieve the province’s goals.

Funding received = $226,159 from the province & $466,059 from utility partners.

      GHG emissions reduced = 95 tonnes/year.

Energy saved: 920,119 kWh and 1,341 GJs.

Energy conservation measures implemented at the North Vancouver campus include:

      • Installation of more efficient lighting options
      • Demand control ventilation and fan speed control installation
      • Reduction of Cafeteria and Kitchen ventilation
      • Addition of holiday and summer scheduling to the direct digital control system
      • Optimum start for building warm-up
      • Variable air volume zone isolation for Birch offices

Capilano U saves $55,336 annually in avoided energy and carbon offset costs from this project.
