      How do I request an article using Discovery or a database? 

      1. Click on  Request this item through interlibrary loan.
      2. Fill out the form and submit.

      How do I request an article using a citation? 

      Fill out the Interlibrary Loan Request Form with the journal title, article title, author, date of publication, and volume/issue (if known). Ask a Librarian  or use Google Scholar for assistance in finding an article where some of this information is missing.

      Send an email to providing as much information about the item as possible and the date it is needed for.

      How long will my request take to arrive?

      Average time by format:
      books - 5-7 business days
      articles - 2-5 business days
      media - 3-5 business days

      How long can I borrow the book for?

      The loan period is two weeks upon arrival. 

      Can I keep the book longer?

      Renewals are dependent on the lending library’s borrowing policies and can only be approved with their permission. To request a renewal please email

      Is there a limit to how many requests I make?

      There is no limit, though at the seventh request for an assignment a librarian will contact you to offer assistance in finding the resources you need. 

      How much does it cost?

      The cost for interlibrary loans services are covered by Capilano University library. It's free to you!

      How will I know when my requested article, book or media has arrived?

      Once your item has arrived, you will be contacted at the phone number or email address provided in your original request.

      Where can I pick up my request?

      If it is a book or media, you can pick it up at the Library Services Counter.

      For article deliveries you will receive an email with a link to download the PDF, which is yours to keep. The link will expire within one week, so be sure to download and save it as soon as possible.

      Will my articles expire? 

      Yes. Please click the article link right away as the expiration date is one week after being sent. Once it is downloaded the article is yours to keep.
