(NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—Capilano College is hosting a free lecture by Dr. Dan Bilsker, author and consultant to the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health and Addictions (CARMHA) at Simon Fraser University, on Tuesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Leon and Thea Koerner Foundation, the event will take place at the North Vancouver campus, 2055 Purcell Way, in the Cedar building, room 148.
Dr. Bilsker will discuss an ambitious project to provide training in management of negative emotions like sadness or despair, designed to help overcome or prevent depression. The skills training approach is especially relevant to young adults.
Dr. Bilsker’s interests include the development of self-management tools for psychological disorders and dissemination of research-based practices in mental health care. He has published a number of articles and manuals these areas. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at the University of British Columbia and works with the psychiatric emergency service of Vancouver General Hospital.
