(NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—While a broken GVRD water main has kept Capilano College closed over the past two and a half days, it hasn’t stopped colleagues and friends who worked with Eliza Kuttner from finding ways to discuss how they can commemorate her.

“We are looking at holding a memorial service in the coming week and possibly setting up a scholarship in Eliza’s name. We will provide more details as they become known,” says Shelley Kean, the college’s head of public affairs. “In the meantime, Langara College, where Eliza’s husband is an instructor, is setting up a trust fund to assist in the replacement of lost possessions for Michael and his daughter, Amita. Details will be posted on their website at www.langara.bc.ca.”

Eliza’s colleagues at Capilano College have described her as an exceptionally talented, outgoing and energetic individual who had a real zest for life.

College president, Dr. Greg Lee, said: “During her 19 years of exemplary service, hundreds of students have benefited from Eliza’s wisdom, her guidance and her commitment. She will be very greatly missed.”

Capilano College hopes to re-open by Saturday morning, January 22. It has been closed since Wednesday afternoon due to a broken GVRD water main on Mt. Seymour Parkway. The college has not sustained any damage from the break.
