(NORTH VANCOUVER)--The Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) announced earlier this week that Capilano College Business Administration instructor, Dave O'Leary, will receive the 2001-2002 ACCC Leadership Excellence Award.

"The committee was extremely impressed with Mr. O'Leary's vision and leadership qualities and his outstanding contribution to Capilano College and the community it serves," said an ACCC representative.

O'Leary will receive his award and be recognized in May at the annual ACCC conference held in St. John's, Newfoundland, which is also his hometown.

"Dave has played a seminal role in the development in the development of programs in co-op education, prior learning assessment and for Aboriginal students here and in Alberta," said Capilano College dean of Business, Catherine Vertesi. "He is a very popular instructor and is widely recognized across the campus for the various roles he plays in special College events."

"Our warmest congratulations go to Dave" she adds, "as well as our thanks for his enthusiastic commitment to the College and our students."

ACCC's awards program recognizes and promotes excellence within Canadian colleges and technical institutes. Featuring both a national and international scope, the awards showcase the extraordinary contribution of individuals to their college/institute communities and highlight the role of our institutions in social, cultural and economic development.

The Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) is the national, voluntary membership organization created in 1972 to represent colleges and institutes to government, business and industry, both in Canada and internationally.

With an Ottawa-based Secretariat, ACCC interacts with federal departments and agencies on the members' behalf and links college capabilities to national industries. As another part of its mandate, ACCC organizes conferences and workshops for college staff, students and Board members to facilitate networking and participation in national and international activities such as sector studies, awards programs and linkages.
