(NORTH VANCOUVER) When the best and the brightest from British Columbia colleges came to together in Kelowna on March 18 to 20 for the annual B.C. Collegiate Business Simulation competition, Capilano College students proved to be one step ahead of the pack.

"Our simulation team did extremely well," said Capilano College Business instructor Graham Fane. Fane, who also acted as team coach along with instructor Tammy Towill, added: "This is a tough competition and the fact that Capilano College students win year after year says a lot about their dedication and skill."

"The awards are too numerous to list," he added, "but it was almost embarrassing how many time Capilano College was called to the winners podium."

Each year, colleges from around the province select four elite business students to compete in a three-day intense business simulation. The students prepare a comprehensive strategic plan on a fictional business and use the plan to run a business over a 10-year timeframe -- all packed into three intense days.

The students' board of directors (the panel of judges) is made up of senior professionals from the business community. They evaluate the teams through a series of presentations, one-on-one questioning, and in-depth analysis of written and verbal skills and business results achieved. Nine top industry representatives made up the panel of judges, which included: Shawn Chute, president & CEO of Voyus IT Inc.; Alan Fraser, assistant vice-president, Human Resources Business Services at ICBC; and Desmond Regier, president of DMR Trading Inc.

The competition was fierce and the judging tough, but when the dust had settled, Capilano College stood out as a clear leader in both individual and team awards.

Hosted by the Okanagan University College, members of the top team received $500 each.
